Does it just address the budding entrepreneur who wishes to set up business on the front lawn? Absolutely not, though it has wonderful tips and instructions along that line. This book is replete with a variety of yummy items requiring a sparse amount of ingredients that boys and girls can produce in the kitchen. Then not to be left out, the artsy can find several fun crafts to occupy and bring them a bit of creative joy. The pictures are so beautifully done and the layout great. I love the happy children shown throughout the book. It simply speaks joy and happiness and exudes the possibility of happy times spent becoming a lemonade stand owner or simply making mom and dad a glass of cranberry lemonade or strawberry lemonade. As a general rule, I do not review cookbooks (it is explicitly stated so on my review policy ). I don’t know how to evaluate a set of recipes/instructions if I haven’t tried them – how am I supposed to know if they are tasty or manageable or work the way they are supposed to if I don’t actually do/make/try them, after all? I don’t know how to evaluate a set of recipes/instructions if I haven’t tried them – how am I supposed to know if they are tasty or manageable or work the way they are supposed to if I don’t actually do/make/try them, after all? But I agreed to take a look at this one because I liked the concept – my step-daughter used to talk about having a lemonade stand all the time when she was younger, so I was intrigued to see what a book about lemonade stands would offer. I’m so glad I agreed to this one – it’s darling cute, full of colorful and enticing illustrations, tempting recipes, and a slew of very cute (and actually manageable looking) crafts to go along with them… First off, let me be clear: I really like the idea of a lemonade stand. I like that it gets kids excited about making and selling something of their very own (or at least mostly their own). I like the way it harkens back to my own childhood and to movie-, television-, and book-versions of childhood. And I like that it fosters in kids a sense of ownership and responsibility – two qualities that I think are in a rather depressing free-fall in this era in which instant-gratification couch-time has replaced outdoor play-time for many kids (and adults). So I was a fan of the concept even before I saw the book. Then, after reading the promotional materials that have been used to generate buzz about it – and after actually reading the book itself – I became even more so. The book emphasizes exactly those things that I would have and that I mentioned – and more. This isn’t just a fun cooking/craft book – it’s meant to reinforce educational math and science concepts, the importance of creativity, and the concept of activity. And it does it in a fun and engaging way that draws the eye – and the attention – in before you know it. Scattered throughout are “stand stories” – tales from kids who have actually run lemonade stands and tried the food/activities described inside. It’s a very cute addition and really made the book pop for me. My own daughter is only 4 – we aren’t quite to the lemonade stand age yet, but she LOVES to eat and help me cook and is an absolute fanatic for anything crafty or arty, so we are definitely having fun with this one. And even if you are not cooking with (or for) a little(r) one, the recipes are appealing in their simplicity – and that simplicity refers to the steps to make them, not to the flavors involved. There are some great mixtures here (fruit combinations, nuts and seeds, vegetable medleys, cheese creations), and they would be just as appropriate for brunch or grab-and-go breakfast/snacks as they would for a child’s stand or party. I like simple ones as much as the kids do. I can recommend the blueberry muffins, cheese crunchies, and the cranberry lemonade is outstanding. The book also gives directions for crafts to enhance the food, like making fancy straws for the lemonade and ice tea. It’s a great project for kids even if they don’t follow through with a lemonade stand. I highly recommend this book. It’s a good way for parents and children to have a project together. The kids can learn to cook simple treats and best of all, you have delicious goodies not only to sell but for the whole family. I received this book from PR by the Book for this review.

Summer fun and kids go hand-in-hand, right? Ice cream man, sandy feet, the perpetual smell of chlorine and sun screen...how about the quintessential lemonade stand?! Kathy Strahs is a mom and former marketer with an MBA from Stanford. She's also darn good at coming up with kid-friendly recipes your little ones (and neighbors) will love to snack on. Seriously, my mouth is watering just thinking about her juicy blueberry muffins with a hint of lemon zest. And then there's her cranberry lemonade, smoothies galore, bars, treats, and oh-so much yummy-ness. It's more than 'just lemonade.' Got a crafty kid on your hands? How about a friendship bracelet stand, felt flower pencils? Bundle them with your food/drink item for an added pizzazz and bolster the price slightly. A two-for-one...you get the idea. THE LEMONADE STAND COOKBOOK is colorful, chock-full of images, and easy-to-follow for kids and adults. An ambitious and older elementary student could easily follow along on her own. It's perfect for busy parents who want to serve simple--yet impressive--drinks and snacks at a playdate or birthday party. Really, the possibilities are endless. And...it makes a GREAT GIFT for summer kid parties, events. Plus, the book features real-life kids, their stories about being an entrepreneur, and more. I'm giving away a copy at https://www.facebook.com/Speaking-of-... beginning tomorrow, May 26th thru May 31. Winner announced June 1. Great kids cookbook! My daughter picked out several recipes she wanted to make right away. The crafts have simple, easy to follow directions. We sat down and learned how to finger knit. Another great cookbook from Straus (8x8 is tasty).

But it’s not just about the baked goodies, you will not look at lemonade the same way again. Why make plain old kool-aid or lemonade? Why not make some smoothies or flavored lemonades? A little variety is going to draw in more customers. But this book does not stop at goodies alone. How much attention are you going to draw sitting on a folding chair and table? Why not make some flashy signs, fancy straws or glasses? The book also gives you some ideas to catch your customer’s eyes and draw them in. I really enjoyed this book. It has so much information about everything for a lemonade stand. It’s has great recipes and wonderful eye catching ideas. If you want your kids to learn how to make a little money this book has a lot of ideas to get them and you started. I received The Lemonade Stand Cookbook from PR by the Book for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

Kathy was kind enough to share this lovely book with me and I can't say enough wonderful things about it. The cookbook shares crafts and recipes in addition to details and decor for your own neighborhood lemonade stand. Based on a real stand created by her children and kids on their street, you get to experience the joys of summer staples from their eyes. The crafts and recipes have a rating for how much adult assistance is required and provides kids with a way to practice some independence as w Kathy was kind enough to share this lovely book with me and I can't say enough wonderful things about it. My daughter is finally old enough for me to make some of these recipes with! I received this as a giveaway quite some time ago but haven't used it until yesterday. We made the "Polka Dot Blondies", they came out DELICIOUS! They were very, very easy to make and we plan on making another recipe from the book today. The lemonade recipes look super tasty too, we will probably wait until summer to try some of those out, lemons are expensive right now! :)
