Jo-Anne Vandermeulen has a winner with her latest book “Premium Promotional Tips for Writers” – it’s an explosion of information on the battlefield of book selling. There was no book deal for me with a large publishing house. Because I self-published and printed with a traditional press, I needed help with promotion. I was stuck without effective marketing maneuvers, and Jo-Anne came through in a big way! “Premium Promotional Tips for Writers” has all you need for an effective do-it-yourself str Jo-Anne Vandermeulen has a winner with her latest book “Premium Promotional Tips for Writers” – it’s an explosion of information on the battlefield of book selling. I read through this book today to get an overview. I re-read it for internalization. And now I go back to the beginning and start putting the ideas into action . If you are spinning at the thought of promoting your book, Jo-Anne's book will plant your feet on the ground and point you in the right direction. Yes, the examples are writer-specific, and so are some of the sites to visit. But overall, the book has a broader audience. I will be recommending it to quite a few of my friends who are not writers, but who run businesses and want to be on the map.

I’ve noticed that one of the biggest problem for many of my book publicity students is zeroing in on that target audience. It’s important to be as specific (and realistic) as possible about who will be interested in the book, and then get the book title in front of them as many times as possible. Publicity is great for that because it’s credible and inexpensive. Worked with this book more than just read it. Took a while for me to finish as so many other things got in the way. However, this book has lots of material to help you promote a book you have out there. I'd recommend it highly for the information and the many links provided. I plan to keep it handy on my computer to reference when working on the promotion end of things.

For the record, if there were a 3.5 star rating, that would have been my choice, but I found this book to be closer to 4 stars than to 3. This is a small book, but it's packed with useful information. I've been a writer for years, and recently decided to go it "on my own" rather than writing for other people. I have been kind of frustrated as to why bloggers can hire me to write for them and have a huge audience, but my own blogs always seemed to fall flat. This is a small book, but it's packed with useful information. I've been a writer for years, and recently decided to go it "on my own" rather than writing for other people. I have been kind of frustrated as to why bloggers can hire me to write for them and have a huge audience, but my own blogs always seemed to fall flat. My writing wasn't the problem; clearly their readers loved my ghostblogged posts. I knew how to write with keywords in mind and for search engine optimization, so I was getting crawled by the right search engine spiders. What was it then? Honestly, I wasn't promoting. I wasn't using the tools I could have been using. I thought of promoting as paying for ads on search engines and other websites, and I balked at paying to generate a reaction. But what I learned from Vandermeulen was that there are lots and lots (and lots!) of ways to promote my blog without paying a cent. I just have to invest a little bit of time and energy into working the social media sites and other venues. The first 100 pages of this book are packed with sites to go to, places to list your blog, ways to write to get and keep readers, and how to play the search engine games that get you listed as high as possible. This is primarily targeted at writers who have self-published a book and are looking to find an audience interested in buying and reading their work. The last segment is about Jo-Anne and her company, which does promotion for writers. I don't have a book completed (yet!) but found the promotional tips for creating an online prescence extremely helpful nonetheless. There is a bit of repetition here and there, which probably is good for people who aren't super careful readers. Because I was taking notes, it got to me a little bit :) A tip: Read this near your computer. You'll find it much easier to bookmark the websites referenced that way and can get started right away! *This book was received at no cost through the GoodReads First Reads program.

I was looking for promotional help to market my book: "Sunrise From An Icy Heart: A Memoir" and came upon this book. If you have been reading on marketing, you can skip the first half of the book. The other half is choke full of useful information. It makes good reading for an indie author. Filled with useful information to help you understand getting your book known in cyberspace. Produce a good edited book and pick up some tips from this book. Good info for Canadian writers here as well.
